We spent one-month traveling in a campervan using mostly free campsites across New Zealand with our then 1-year-old baby and explored and hiked beautiful places across both the North and South Island. New Zealand is one of the best countries for freedom camping. The facilities are present and maintained across both islands, you just need a vehicle to reach these locations. We traveled with our NSC (non-self-contained) campervan from North to South Island. If you travel with a self-contained camper, you have even a bigger variety of locations where you can stay.

A weekend getaway with our baby in Tornio and exploring southern Lapland and the Baltic seaside: rapids, hills and pretty islands.
Our first weekend trip with the baby was to Posio, a lakeside town in southern Lapland, the gateway to the fells of Riisitunturi National Park and the rapids of Oulanka National Park.
