Finding the best hotel in Helsinki – or anywhere else you travel – is an important step to do before your long-awaited vacation in Finland. Although we never lived in the capital of Finland, we have visited the city numerous times for leisure, work, or studies during the last decade. We have tried budget hotels and luxury hotels in Helsinki as well as stayed in a couple of AirBnbs in the city center and near the Helsinki Vantaa airport before or after our flights. Several of these were family-friendly hotels where our toddler had fun too.
Why visit Helsinki – you wonder. The city is not only a charming Nordic capital but a place that even Manchester envies as it has almost no homelessness at all, and you will find numerous charming attractions and unique sights too. Have you ever tried ice-swimming?
In this post, we have collected the top hotels in Helsinki, the best luxury hotels, and we also share our best tips for budget accommodations (including the best cheap hotel in Helsinki) too along with our short Helsinki hotel reviews, so you will have more time to do sightseeing in Helsinki. The Most Comfortable Cheap Hotels in Helsinki
Often, when we needed a place for a short night, we were looking for the cheapest hotel in Helsinki as we had no time to enjoy the amenities (or even breakfast) due to an early departure. Although Finland is generally an expensive Nordic country, you can have a cheap stay in Helsinki if you opt for a hostel or a budget hotel in Helsinki Finland.
Omena Hotel Helsinki Review
One of the most popular cheap hotels in Helsinki is the Omena Hotel. It doesn’t offer services, and in most cases, you need to do self-checking (the instructions are sent to you after the booking), but on the positive side, it really is affordable.
The rooms are simple, but you don’t need a lot anyway if you spend your day sightseeing and you would only sleep at the hotel. The hotels have good connections to public transport – this is one of the most important aspects when booking a cheap place where we stay only for one night.
Both Helsinki Review
Both Helsinki offers shared and private rooms too. The rooms are simple with basic necessities. We recommend it for students or for those couples who stay in Helsinki for at least a couple of days as it is a bit away from the city center.
The Best Hotel in Helsinki Airport
Will you have an early flight or late-night arrival and need a hotel in Helsinki near the airport? There aren’t many cheap hotels near Helsinki Vantaa Airport, so if you look for a budget solution, check out our favorite Airbnb in Vantaa. We stayed there uncountable times. Alternatively, you can get to a Hotel in Helsinki City Center in 30-60 minutes by public transport (airport train is 30 min) to look for more affordable options mentioned in the previous point.
Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport Review
Clarion Hotel in Helsinki near the airport
In case you decide to spend a bit more but cut on commuting times, we recommend you Clarion Hotel that is only a couple of minutes by bus (it goes rarely at night) or by taxi.
It’s guaranteed that you will have a perfectly clean and spacious room, we often stayed here as a couple and with a baby too. The staff is excellent, not to mention the huge buffet breakfast which they serve from quite early times, so you can grab something before heading (back) to the airport.
GoSleep Lounge – Hotels in Helsinki Airport Finland
Actually it is not really a hotel, these are sleeping pods at the airport. You need to pay for them by the hour. It is perfect if you have only a couple of hours at the airport and you have no time to waste travel to hotels near the airport, plus you need a comfy sleep while you can even charge your USB devices. We have tried the capsules when they were new (and had a free promotion).
3 Best Hotel in Helsinki City Center
Staying in the city center has its own charm and advantage – as the city is small, you can easily explore it on foot from your hotel. There are numerous hotels in Helsinki Centre to choose from. If you look for really cheap hotels in Helsinki city center, check for the budget options here.
Original Sokos Presidentti Hotel Helsinki Reviews
It is one of the best hotels in Helsinki center, only a couple of minutes’ walk from Kamppi Shopping Center and half a kilometer from the Railway Station. As a guest, you will get a discount (10%) when shopping in one of the nearby located (and Finland-wise well-known) Sokos Department Store.
The rooms are furnished in a modern style and their sizes vary. Kids can have fun in the children’s play area too.
Klaus K Hotel Helsinki Reviews
Klaus K is another charming hotel in Helsinki Finland city center, only a hundred meters from the famous Esplanadi. If you look for a designer hotel, this is for you!
The unique interior design ensures that your stay in the Finnish capital is something special. The hotel staff so are the meals excellent. If we were looking for an affordable yet unique place for a vacation in Helsinki, this hotel would be our choice.
Marski by Scandic Review
The environmentally friendly Marski Hotel is only 300 meters from Helsinki Central Station, the Market Square, and the Esplanadi shopping district.
The rooms have an excellent view of the city center, and the hotel has a parking garage and a gym.
Best Hotels in Helsinki Near Train Station
Almost all the hotels in Helsinki city center are easily approachable from the train station as well.
Helka Hotel Helsinki Reviews
Hotel Helka is a really pleasant place with spacious rooms, one of the top hotels in Helsinki Finland. The building is from the 1920s, but the interior is modern, stylish. It is close to the Train Station (500m – 10 minutes) and Bus Station (250m) in Kamppi as well.
The rooms are simple yet comfortable, so you can rest well after sightseeing in Helsinki. It is a perfect choice for those who would not mind being a couple of hundred meters of extra distance to save a bit on accommodation.

The Best Family Hotel Helsinki
Not only family-friendly hotels but one of the best hotels in Helsinki Downtown.
Hotel Arthur Helsinki Review
The budget family friendly hotel offers rooms for 4 people, so ideal for families who want to share the same room with their kids.
It is closely located to the important transportation hubs, the metro, the bus, and the train station as well. Their buffet breakfast is delicious.
Radisson Blu Seaside Review
The Radisson Blu Seaside Hotel’s superior room is perfect for families with one or two kids as it can easily accommodate up to 4 people as they are so spacious. The view from the hotel is excellent, you can see the sea below you.
As it belongs to Radisson, it is usually more pricey than the above mentioned Hotel Arthur but features a lovely sea view. It has a fitness center as well if you would like to work out a bit during the cold fall or winter days.

Hotel Lilla Roberts Review
The top 5 star hotel in Helsinki – well, at least according to us. You will love the art deco style. Elegant, stylish rooms with amazing service. Lilla Roberts is a hotel for those who want to spend an unforgettable stay in style.
Oh, and the best, you can use their bikes for free to explore the city during your stay. The gym is also free of charge. It has also family friendly suites. Do you need anything more?
Lapland Hotels Bulevardi Review
A modern, luxury hotel in Helsinki center. It is close to the main attractions and public transport. You can enjoy a Lappish style buffet breakfast in the mornings and choose a la carte local dishes during the rest of the day.
Hotel St. George Helsinki Review
The impressive hotel building’s history goes back until the 1840s. The rooms are elegant, and the hotel has its own bakery for all the yumminess they serve.
The rooms at St. George are spacious, the bathroom is top-notch so it is guaranteed you will have a fabulous time here with your loved one.
If I were looking for a modern, 5-star hotel, this would be my choice. Guests (above 16) can visit the wellness center for free during their stay.
Hotel Haven Review
Another hotel in a renewed building near the Esplanadi with rooms overlooking to the Helsinki Harbor. But I have to warn you, this Helsinki luxury hotel is not for everyone. Some would call it outdated while others would fell in love immediately with the interior design.
When you enjoyed the view from the window, time to relax in the spa-like bathroom, or rest on the comfy beds. The suites have views of the Presidential Palace, the Market Place, or the Uspenski Cathedral too.
Hotel Kämp Review
Gorgeous building inside-out! The hotel was established in 1887 as Finland’s grand hôtel. It is located in the heart of Helsinki opposite the beautiful Esplanade park. It is close to everything important in Helsinki.
Kämp Spa features a traditional Finnish sauna, eucalyptus-scented steam bath, plus you can visit the well-equipped gym, and a spa lounge with heated divans or have a relaxing massage.
