We are not sure how long the social distancing measures will last in Finland or if they are lifted partially or totally, but there are certainly a couple of things that, for sure, we will see once the measures are loosened. Life will be so different, yet, the same. Let’s see the list of things I see coming.

  1. The rainy summer (autumn or winter) will start immediately.
  2. Swarms of mosquitoes will enjoy the newly got freedom as well. They will keep a negative safety distance from humans.
  3. Pubs will make up their losses in one night. Or day. In Lapland during the midnight sun.
  4. Finn will hug their friends. I was just kidding. No way it’ll happen.Finnish Wooden Cabin in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park
  5. You will spend a fab time in your (rental) mökki (=summer cottage).
  6. Or you won’t even consider any more leaving the warm south and Uusimaa for holidays up north. It’s just too far and cold in Lapland.
  7. The last patches of snow will melt in Lapland. How to sauna accessories: wooden water bucket
  8. Killing a virus or just relaxing? You go to the sauna several times a week, no matter what’s going on in the world.
  9. You will still prefer an online get-together with your acquaintances.
  10. You can’t wait to drink 67436 cups of coffee again in the office.coffee cup
  11. Stockpiling of toilet paper will shift to buying mosquito sprays.
  12. You will keep practicing kalsarikännit.
In case you don’t live in Finland, and you are curious, kalsarikännit means getting drunk in your underwear at home.
  13. The grocery shops will still have empty shelves of makkara (Finnish sausage) and cheap beer.
  14. The low frequency of buses and trains (outside of the capital region) won’t change.

  15. People will still keep 2 meters apart from each other while waiting for public transport.
  16. You will see fewer people gathering at the yard or beach than during social isolation.
  17. You can queue again for free buckets.
